Saving for later, Saving for something big

tickets

Now days people don’t know what saving is, this goes for kids and adults alike, people just have this “I need this now!” type of attitude.  A great scenario is when I was younger, I loved going to a place called Chuck E. Cheese’s.  Now for those of you who don’t know it was just an arcade where you could have birthday party’s and eat pizza, now the pizza wasn’t a big deal to me, what was a big deal were the tickets.  I loved getting tickets and that is because you could cash them in for a prize, maybe a small prize that didn’t cost too much or a big prize that cost quite a bit.  Now almost every kid would want something, and get something, before they left that day, but I guess I’m one of those few exceptions, because what I would do is save my tickets, I would have a bag that I kept my tickets in and took them home for later.  Now why would we I do this?  Sure I wanted something that day, I wanted it now.  But I didn’t need it, and I knew that if I waited I could get something better next time.

People don’t think that way, people think that if they can charge it to a card that they can afford it.  That can’t be further from the truth.  I want a house right now, am I crazy enough to go buy one now while I’m in school still, absolutely not.  If I were to buy one now I would have so much stress and anxiety from the house that I wouldn’t even enjoy it.  To go along with that I wouldn’t be buying the house I wanted, I would have to settle for less because I don’t have the deposit I would need to fund the house that I would want.  So with a little bit of patience and waiting  for God’s timing then my wife and I can get the house we want later.

James 5:7 says, Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return.  Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring.  They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.  So for the farmer, he didn’t get to reap the reward until he waited patiently for the Earth, or God, to give it to him.  We need to learn to slow down and save, be patient and wait for that something later, whatever it may be.
