So now we are in chapter four of Proverbs, and still yet we are talking about wisdom, and having wisdom. Not only are we talking about wisdom in this chapter but also having good judgement. Now, in my mind wisdom and good judgement pretty much go hand in hand. The title of this chapter in the Bible is “A Father’s Wise Advice.” For the first few verses the Father, who is God, stresses how important obtaining good judgement is, how important listening to instructions is, how important being wise in the decisions you make is, the Bible goes on and on about this topic. Now it may just seem like rambling to some people, but when I read something that is repeated over and over again, or if someone tells me something and they stress to me that it’s very important, that is how I am going to look at it.
God didn’t make mistakes when creating and crafting His Word, He didn’t accidentally forget to hit the delete button, He is trying to drive home this idea that having wisdom and having good judgement is a skill that is very much-needed and most people don’t have. Proverbs 4:7 says this, getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgement. Now who doesn’t want to make wise decisions? Because we all want that, and it clearly says right here, that obtaining wisdom is the WISEST decision that anyone can make.
This chapter is revolved around obtaining wisdom and good judgement, but from who? Initially God is our father, He is the one that should guide our footsteps, but there are others who can help as well. Talking about your father and mother, this chapter very clearly says to not turn away from what your parents are saying. Listen to there and instructions, and they will help you in the way you should go. God placed you with your parents for a reason, again God doesn’t make mistakes, He is in control. You should have a strong relationship with God as well as your parents, God gave you those two people for a reason…a good reason and you need them just as much as they need you. You may not think you have done much for them yet, but that day will come when they truly will be blessed to have you as their child. Hearing your parents tell you that they are so blessed to have you, and they are so proud of you are some of the greatest words anyone can hear. Now if we can just strive to hear that from God the Father, hear Him say that son, I am so pound of you.
I know that’s my prayer.
