The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:9
So… Adam and Eve had two trees that are in the middle of the garden… they were told not to eat of one particular tree.
But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:17
So what do you think? Was God surprised when Adam and Eve ate from the tree? I mean, if God didn’t want them to eat from it, why put it there? Why entice them?

The scenario that Adam and Eve were in, that can easily describe what we see day in and day out. So we have this “tree” in our life. Something that the world, “serpent,” says is good, pleasing, will make you better, and we start to believe that. We believe that God is “holding back from us.” That He is keeping from us something that will ultimately help us…
I absolutely know that God wasn’t surprised, He’s all-knowing, and His reasonings in regards to placing the tree weren’t of bad intent. The tree being placed there goes back to the idea of free will. If Adam and Eve didn’t have choices, then what would they be? Basically puppets, people who are told what to do, what to eat, and had zero say on the situation.
Do you have a “tree” in your life? Do you have something that looks, smells, feels, sounds, so good that you just have to have it? Even though… it goes against God and what He wants?
As a Follower of Christ, we ought to know that God loves us, that He wants the absolute best for us. And if we come to the point where we think He is “holding back from us,” we might be in trouble. Because our mind has then wondered from, what I have, to what I think I need.
