Proverbs Chapter Five

April 27, 2015

We have come to another chapter in Proverbs and this particular chapter takes a slight turn.  The title is “Avoid Immoral Women,” and that is what this chapter goes into detail about.  In today’s day and age this type of sin is all around us, in the media, what we watch and listen to on TV, what we read, and just from the people around us.  What this passage is referring to is sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, and the list could go on, but a verse that describes this is Galatians 5:19-24.  What the verse is describing is physical sins and it goes on to say that God warns us, that those who live like this, in a sinful way, will not inherit the Kingdom of God.  God doesn’t sugar coat things, He tells us what He wants and expects and then its our choice.  This type of sin is all around us, especially in today’s society, and the way that we look at it now is being the “normal.”  Like I have said before, who wants to be normal?  If normal is not having God then I want to be the complete opposite of normal.

The passage in Proverbs starts out like the chapters passed by talking about Wisdom and how we need to pay attention to our Instructor.  Then it goes on to describe an immoral woman, lips as sweet as honey and mouth smoother than oil, but in the end she is bitter as poison and as dangerous as a double-edged sword.  It tells us that ultimately you will live to regret what you did, you will lose all honor and things you have achieved.  Share love with just your wife, the one that God placed in your life, the one that will always be with you and take care of you.

Verse 21-23 says this, For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.  An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him.  He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.

Don’t live and sin like the foolish man, don’t be the “normal” either, be the person that God created to do great things for Him and His Kingdom.
