So the other day I heard this guys ringtone, and it was “See You Again.” Now this is very popular song, rising to No. 1 on the charts after just a few weeks. What made this song so special is that it was a tribute to someone who died. The tribute was to Paul Walker, who crashed his car at a speed of 100 mph and then the car caught on fire, killing both him and the passenger.
Now looking at the words to the lyrics of the tribute song, the main parts we are going to look at are the chorus, the refrain, and the bridge.
Chorus: It’s been a long day without you, my friend. And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again.
Refrain: How could we not talk about family when family’s all that we got? Everything I went through you were standing there by my side. And now you gon’ be with me for the last ride.
Bridge: So let the light guide your way, yeah. Hold every memory as you go. And every road you take. Will always lead you home, home.
Looking at the lyrics, I found numerous websites that had lyric meanings, that showed what other people thought the words meant. And almost all of the meanings matched up to what I thought and I’m sure mostly everyone else.
Looking at the chorus, “I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again.” Now what that looks like to me, is that they are talking about Heaven. So all the friends and family are going to see the deceased when they meet in Heaven.
Looking at the refrain, “How could we not talk about family when family’s all that we’ve got.” So here, they are saying that family is ALL that they have, family and friends is all that they have to depend on and lean on.
Looking at the bridge, “So let the light guide your way…and every road you take will always lead you home.” Again, talking about Heaven, let the light guide your way, talking about Christ. Then talking about roads you take, EVERY road takes you home, home representing somewhere nice and welcoming, talking about Heaven.
So you are probably wondering, why bring all this up, what is the point. This song along with many other forms of media is very misguided and causing the world to discredit the truth and fall for something else.
First, looking at the guy delivering the song and telling the story, he is obviously not a man of God. I found lyrics to some of his songs, and they are very explicit, the words and the content does not show God in any way. Also images of him doing worldly things, such as smoking weed and looking just like the world. (Matthew 7:15-20)
John 14:6, Jesus told him, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Matthew 7:13-14, “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for many who choose that way. But the gateway to Life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few find it.”
You aren’t promised tomorrow, just because someone can sing a song and make you feel good inside, and just because a pastor can tickle your ear with what they say, doesn’t mean you are right with God. I have so much more than family, I have Christ, and He is the only One that can save you. Finally, the light is Jesus Christ, and I can’t stress this enough, He is the ONLY way to Heaven.
